Where we're headed
It's obvious that the global and national system is failing in so many ways. A lot of people are asking what's next and this is my best guess.
I think we're heading into multipolar traditionalism, unfortunately.
We have started to throw off the chains of postmodern nihilism and we're rediscovering meaning and purpose, which some call metamodernism.
Large scale, I think the next 80 years will see Christianity/Zionism, Islam (mostly as victim), Hinduism, and Confucianism battling each other for supremacy with the backing of states and multinational corporations.
Why traditionalism?
The main unifying forces of the past 150 years basically fall into four camps: nationalism, racism, traditionalism, and market fundamentalism.
Racism failed as a unifying force with the Nazis.
Nationalism fails as people lose faith in their countries.
Market fundamentalism is failing with the extreme inequality we are experiencing.
The next logical step is traditionalism subsuming the state and markets. Humans tend to reach back to move forward and I'm pretty sure we'll go back to religion/traditions as a uniting force.
That's pretty ugly because an extreme religionist will launch a nuke without much thought.
But... Meaningfulness is a huge opportunity.
As people rediscover meaning they can wake to their basic connections to each other unfiltered by ideology. We have the chance to learn the deep satisfaction of providing for one another and being enfolded in a supportive community that centers humanity rather than deity or tradition.
It's a real chance for the barbarians to sweep down into Rome, reject the people that want to control us through tradition or technology, develop NEW traditions, and live as equals.
It's a wonderful chance for humans to become humans again.
As people lose faith in the systems and ideology of the past they will be looking for a safe harbor. The ruling class will offer dead traditions and social hierarchies that continue to keep us subservient.
We need to pursue lives that take responsibility. That make rulers unnecessary. We can provide for ourselves. We don't need them. We never did.
In short, this could be a century without rulers, a century that sees the blooming of anarchism.

Clear, direct and concise. Sharp analysis. I love it. No crumbs.
